UVW-CWA endorses Rae Huang for Los Angeles mayor

United Videogame Workers-CWA is proud to announce our endorsement for Candidate RAE HUANG in the race for Los Angeles City Mayor.
On Wednesday, May 6th, three LA mayoral candidates took to an NBC debate stage to discuss the future of Los Angeles. Meanwhile, in a city where 40% of voters are still polling undecided, almost a dozen other candidates were prevented from appearing.
Among those shut out from the debates was Reverend Rae Huang, a progressive candidate with a background in community and labor organizing and a stridently pro-worker policy agenda.
So where was Rae Huang during the debate?
On a call with US: talking about game industry layoffs, affordable housing, the Protect Our Games Act, and building union power.
The other candidates in this race have proposals across the political spectrum, including many we happen to like. Unfortunately, they also all have one thing in common: search their policy platforms for any mention of organized labor, and you’ll be lucky to find a whisper (if not outright antipathy).
Here’s the thing: Democracy is not about one policy, politician, or election. It’s a process. An ongoing conversation. And you cannot have a conversation with labor if labor isn’t in the room.
UVW-CWA believes Rae Huang is the right choice for our members, for reasons ranging from her long record of organizing work (with CLUE, HousingNow, Healthy LA, and more) to a robust, progressive policy platform that places working people first.
We encourage all Los Angeles UVW members to vote for Rae Huang in the Los Angeles Mayoral Primary. Here’s a word from Rae on our endorsement:
Rae: “I am so proud to be endorsed by the United Videogame Workers, a direct-join union which represents anyone in the videogame industry. This differs from other union models, which organize workers in a single company or specific department or office. Here in Los Angeles, we have some of the most impressive videogame artists, writers, designers, QA, community managers, and programmers who add to the creative engine and industry of Los Angeles. Not only are they fighting for better games and workplaces, they fight for all workers everywhere. If you are a videogame worker and not a member yet, consider learning more at https://uvw-cwa.org. Stronger together!”
